Helen Bassett
Hello Robbinsdale Area Schools Families,
I am running for re-election, to serve on the Robbinsdale Area Schools Board of Education. This campaign is one of the most consequential runs of my elective career. I am running again, because I want to focus squarely with colleagues and the superintendent on the best learning environment for students and staff. I will champion sound governing principles, as a solid advocate for our students and staff, using the application of credible and proven principles. I have served our community with authenticity and purpose, because community trust is best preserved when we practice good policy consistently.
I have demonstrated a steady and balanced approach for over two decades balancing divergent ideas,
with respect and resolve. I have successfully advocated for our richly diverse community, through
successful referenda, redistricting, school closures, and successful navigation with colleagues through
the pandemic, from start to finish. I have worked successfully with no less than nine former
superintendents and successfully alongside eighteen former and current board directors. That number is
even higher when I consider my past service on the 11-member WMEP and the 12-member
Intermediate 287 school boards. I learned from each of them.
Five of the current seven board directors are in their first term. Fresh eyes and ideas can reach their
fullest potential when balanced with solid governance practices, policies, and supportive proven
experience. I am committed to learning new methods when needed, changes where necessary,
personally, and professionally seeking to continuously improve.
I will collaborate with others to support academic achievement, future-ready, and safe facilities, within
an environment that best suits learning. If returned to service by you, the community, I am confident
that along with you, colleagues, and the new superintendent we will meet the challenges of the future. I
am excited to help build upon the existing district strengths. I am grateful for your past support. I ask for
it once again, beginning early on September 20 th or for your vote, on November 5th .
